The development was undertaken between April 2017 and January 2018 and triggered activities listed that require an Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of the 2014 NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (please refer to the applicable legislation below). The activities took place on a section of Portion 9 of the Farm Jagersfontein 432, which is located approximately 5.5 km east of the town of Loerie, situated within the Kouga Local Municipality, seated within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Eastern Cape province.
The development included the clearing of approximately 11.3 hectares (ha) of vegetation over the 350-ha property, the construction of a weir within the Berg Rivier (a perennial river flowing in a westerly direction) as well as the construction of two storage dams which has the combined capacity of approximately 45 000 m2. The development also included the construction of an additional access track (approximately 1.77 km in length) between the existing farm house and the newly cleared areas.
Habitat Link Consulting (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by the Proponent to submit an application for the abovementioned activities in terms of Section 24(G) of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No. 107 of 1998, as amended). The proponent intends to submit a NEMA Section 24(G) application for the post facto authorisation of the unlawful commencement of the abovementioned activities
